Will Your Children Ever See Grizzlies in the Wild?

Save the Grizzly BearsGrizzly bears are icons of the wild high country of the American West. When Lewis and Clark explored the West, grizzlies roamed from the Great Plains to California and from Alaska to Mexico. Today, however, the grizzly population in the lower 48 states is about 1 percent of estimated pre-colonial levels, and the few bears that remain are concentrated in shrinking pockets of the northern Rockies and North Cascades.

Take Action Here.

I hope not! I guess from the car would be ok.

This is a great blog. There are so many animals that go through horrible events because of humans and are killed ruthlessly. You post some good questions for us to answer.

I really wouldn't want to meet a Grizzly in the woods but they are an important part of our ecosystem. We should work towards saving them.

I'll take action.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the nice comment. I love your blog! The subjects are near and dear to my heart. For Earth day I posted many of the links to the organizations I belong to.

If there is a petition to sign I am so there! :o)

@court-what a shame it will be if the only place to see wild animals was a zoo.

@cade-Thank you! I try to keep it upbeat, but sometimes it is hard.

@trica-That's it exactly. I do not want to see a grizzly up close. I do want to know they are out there, somewhere.

@titania starlight-Thanks for stopping by. I liked your meditation room post. The site did not load, but I have it bookmarked. I am so there!

Thanks for the visit. Love your blog.

Bears have always had such a tough time from the performing bears of Russia to the captive bears who are in tiny boxes for their whole life while their bile is cruelly extracted.

Hopefully North America will protect their bears, free in the wilds, for future generations.

I really like the concept for this blog and this year it had actually crossed my mind to do the same kind of thing from listening regularly to the BBC reports on the envionment.

It is truly horrible. We're literally killing off everything we don't eat and even a lot of what we do eat as far as fish go.

As a little kid in the sixties I remember reading in My Weekly Reader about solar power, the environent... Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring" had been published...

It's hard to be optimistic. It seems like the one constant is the willingness of people with power and position to spoil the environment for short term profit. Elected officials come and go. But was it St. Paul who said "Greed never ends"? (No, I guess he was talking about love there in I Cors. 13. But I'd say that human greed is going toe to toe with love as something that doesn't end...)

And the one thing that's never discussed is our refusal as a species to control our population. Not polite. Not "relgious." Not politically correct.

But we're turning our species into a kind of earth-infestation. This is a finite sphere. Our population growth is the key driver behind every environmental problem. And we refuse to even seriously look at this.

The fact is that if we don't control our population Mother Nature will. And it won't be pretty.

Sorry for the essay! Good blog!

I thought I read that at one time the grizzlies were extinct. Glad to see there are some left. I hope to see one someday myself.
